In
the following table, I have given four versions to show the progression from
Tyndale to the KJV. So that the comparison may be as fair as possible, I have
used original-spelling texts of all four versions: for Tyndale and the
"Bishops' Bible," Luther A. Weigle's The
New Testament Octapla (Nelson, 1962); for Geneva,
the 1607 Robert Barker NT in the Pilgrim Press facsimile (1989); and for the
KJV, the reprint of the first edition by Nelson (1982). Despite what some have
asserted, this comparison amply demonstrates the truth of what Weigle says in the introduction to the Octapla
(p. ix): "The
English Bible owes more to William Tyndale than to any other man. . . . "
