Luke 22:54-71: An Illustration

In the following table, I have given four versions to show the progression from Tyndale to the KJV. So that the comparison may be as fair as possible, I have used original-spelling texts of all four versions: for Tyndale and the "Bishops' Bible," Luther A. Weigle's The New Testament Octapla (Nelson, 1962); for Geneva, the 1607 Robert Barker NT in the Pilgrim Press facsimile (1989); and for the KJV, the reprint of the first edition by Nelson (1982). Despite what some have asserted, this comparison amply demonstrates the truth of what Weigle says in the introduction to the Octapla (p. ix): "The English Bible owes more to William Tyndale than to any other man. . . . "
